News from QUBUS
DGO visits QUBUS and IFO
Last week, the DGO (German Society for Electroplating and Surface Technology) hosted a series of talks at QUBUS and IFO in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Participants were treated to two interesting talks:
Artur Kusminov (QUBUS) provided a comprehensive, practical insight into the latest developments in environmental legislation for operators of surface treatment facilities. Andreas Eva (IFO) then spoke about the latest developments in the field of corrosion testing, with a particular focus on the automotive industry.
Following the presentations, all participants had the opportunity to discover the wide range of testing facilities available at the IFO Laboratory during a guided tour of the laboratory competence centre. The day was rounded off with a lively discussion at the on-site BG get-together, where all participants were able to network further and discuss their impressions. We would like to thank everyone involved for this successful and inspiring event.

ZVO Surface Technology Days, 11–13 September 2024 in Leipzig: We’ll be exhibiting!
Once again this year, QUBUS Planung und Beratung Oberflächentechnik GmbH and the IFO Institute for Surface Technology will be exhibiting at the ZVO Surface Technology Days in Leipzig. Please visit us at Stand No. 65 or attend our presentation on 12 September 2024:
This year, there is a particular focus on measures aimed at achieving climate neutrality. The stand at the ZVO Surface Technology Days offers the ideal opportunity to discuss process optimisation and ways to achieve climate-neutral surface technology with the experts. Also, the Qubus presentation on 12 September at 2 pm in Hall 5 on the topic of „Climate-neutral electroplating of the future – optimal heat recovery from exhaust air“ provides more in-depth insights into this topic. The presentation introduces innovative approaches to energy saving and, consequently, to reducing CO₂ emissions in the electroplating industry, and demonstrates how significant progress towards climate neutrality can be achieved through optimised heat recovery from exhaust air.

Energy efficiency is becoming mandatory
The new Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG) brings significant changes for businesses in the industrial surface treatment sector, as it also affects small and medium-sized enterprises.
The EnEfG sets out the industry’s obligations regarding the establishment and certification of energy or environmental management systems, the preparation and publication of implementation plans for energy-saving measures, and the prevention, utilisation and reporting of waste heat.
You are welcome to read more about the specific implications and energy-saving measures here (published in mo/Galvanotechnik 5–6/2024)

Staff anniversaries at IFO and QUBUS
At our joint annual celebration, three dedicated employees were honoured for their long service: Constanze Kajerski and Ladina Nachtigall were recognised for 10 years’ service to the company, whilst Franziska Kabasic was honoured for 15 years’ service. The management team values and is delighted by their long-standing commitment and would like to thank the employees celebrating their anniversaries warmly for their contribution to the success of IFO and QUBUS.

IFO and QUBUS wish you a Merry Christmas
We would like to thank you for your excellent and trusting cooperation, and wish you and your family a wonderful festive season and all the best for the coming year!

What might a climate-neutral electroplating industry look like in the future?
The need to curb climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions has become a matter of paramount importance for businesses and industries worldwide. The electroplating sector, which plays a key role in various industries, is also affected by this.
You are welcome to read about what a climate-neutral electroplating process might look like in the future and what steps would be advisable for a sustainable facility here (published in the ZVO_Report 5/Nov 2023)

Implementation of the 42nd BImSchV – „Legionella Regulation“
Are you affected by the 42nd BImSchV and are you complying with your obligations?
The news reports about the Legionella outbreak in Warstein in 2013 remain unforgettable: river water contaminated with Legionella was used untreated to operate evaporative cooling systems, and the bacteria were able to spread through the release of aerosols. Over 150 people fell ill, and 2 people died! To minimise these risks, the 42nd BImSchV (42nd Ordinance Implementing the Federal Immission Control Act) – widely known as the „Legionella Ordinance“ – came into force in 2017.
