PLEASE NOTE THE DATE: Reporting requirement for wet scrubbers, cooling towers and evaporative cooling systems from 19 July to 19 August 2018

The notification requirement comes into force on 19 July 2018. From that date, operators will have one month to notify the relevant authority of their existing installations. Notification is to be made via an online portal (www.kavka.bund.de).

This applies to all installations falling within the scope of the 42nd BImSchV; this includes, amongst other things, wet scrubbers for exhaust air treatment and cooling towers. There are only a few exceptions or exclusion criteria.

The Regulation came into force in August 2017 and sets out specific requirements for the protection and prevention of Legionella in systems, with a view to preventing any potential spread of the bacteria. These include, for example, in-house inspections and laboratory tests, inspections of the systems by experts, and documentation in the operating log.

If you have any questions regarding the obligation to report or the requirements set out in the 42nd BImSchV, the Environment Department will be happy to assist you. We would be delighted to help. The contact person for this is: Frank Schüle (+49 7171 1040817). schuele@qubus.de) and Marcus Sorg (+49 7171 1040820. sorg@qubus.de).

Seminar announcement: ZVO seminar on “Fundamentals of Electroplating and Surface Technology”

10–13 April 2018
27–29 November 2018

Location: Schwäbisch Gmünd

Surface treatment technologies are key to finding technical, scientific, economic and environmental solutions to current problems in the development of innovative products. Modern surface treatment technology is used across all sectors of the manufacturing industry. No car leaves the production line without its key components having undergone surface treatment. Modern medical technology would likewise be inconceivable without surface engineering processes, whilst the construction and plumbing sectors, electrical engineering and the electronics industry are also unable to function without surface finishing. It is therefore not surprising that surface engineering is one of the most dynamically growing sectors in Germany.

With its 2½-day introductory seminar, the ZVO offers an opportunity to refresh or improve one’s basic knowledge of electroplating and surface treatment technology.

Target groups:

Purchasers of surfaces:

  • Developers and designers
  • Technical Business Administrators
  • Purchaser

from the field of electroplating and surface treatment:

  • Project Engineers and Sales Engineers in Plant Engineering
  • Project Engineers and Sales Engineers in Process Chemistry
  • People changing careers or returning to the electroplating and surface treatment sector

Support for an orphanage in Myanmar

For years now, and this year is no exception, QUBUS and IFO have been providing financial support to the Pro-Waisenhaus initiative (www.pro-waisenhaus.de). The charity „Pro-Waisenhaus Süd-Ost-Asien mildtätiger e.V.“ has set itself the aim of enabling children in the Myanmar region of Burma to lead a dignified life.
Dr Amanatidis, a former paediatrician from Bietigheim-Bissingen, is devoting all his energy to creating a new future for the children. The orphanage, built with donations, provides a home for 135 children. The children are accommodated in rooms with 12 or 15 beds, each of which has an en-suite bathroom with a shower. There are separate common rooms and a kitchen. It is a large, new house designed with children’s needs in mind. The children are looked after until they have completed their education and are able to lead independent lives.
